For the Love of Dogs

Every time I check my Facebook page, there’s always a post about a pet dog, usually a Labrador, abandoned by the owner. And every time I see these kinds of posts, my heart breaks that I would always wish I own my house and that it would be very huge to accommodate all these lovely four-legged babies. Though my house, a rented one, is small, I do have two dogs – my furry daughters- and one of them is Labrador. I know the main reason why there is a lot of this particular breed that are abandoned. Labradors are known to have a very loud voice, and when feeling alone and frustrated, they can bark endlessly. Usually, this same reason is the cause of the abandonment since neighbours are disturbed and as a result, they complain until the pet parent gives up his dog. I know this because I had been in the same situation where all my neighbours were up in arms at me.

It wasn’t actually just my Labrador’s loud barking, I felt that it was just generally because I kept dogs in my rented house; the house before the one I am currently renting. Although the house owner was a pet lover and had approved me to keep dogs, it was the neighbours who found it foul. Every time I walked my fur babies, they would stare at me. In some occasion, they’d tell me not pass by their gate. Whenever they stopped to sniff something, my neighbours would shout at me. Slowly, I was getting annoyed and mad with all those nuisances. I also felt that my and my fur babies’ worlds were constricting that it was suffocating, but since my workplace was nearby, I endured all of it. However, it wasn’t only me that’s affected. My fur babies were the most affected since they could barely go out. I reduced the walks and mostly done it after midnight. I also played with them inside the house, which was very small. They didn’t get enough exercise which made them destructive.

One day, as I was visiting a site, I took them with me. Since the layout was empty, I allowed them to walk without a leash. It was their first time to run freely. The joy beaming on their face couldn’t be described. I was full of happiness seeing them like that. Even though we were #together for many months, it was the first time that I saw that much of excitement, not even equal to when they got bones to chew.

After coming back from that layout, I’d decided to #lookup for a better place for my fur babies. After a couple of weeks of searching, I found a bigger house with much bigger empty space for my fur babies to play and run. Immediately, I gave my notice to my landlady and started packing my things up. Now, though I drive farther to work, I’m glad that there are two furry babies happily waiting for me at home.  I’m thankful that I spent that day with them #together which gave me motivation and courage to give them better lives. Now, I wish to own the biggest place on Earth so that I can give all the abandoned dogs a home they deserve.
